Understanding Egg Donor Compensation

Thinking about becoming an egg donor?

We imagine you have quite a few reasons for embarking on this exciting path. Maybe you’ve been inspired by someone else’s journey as an egg donor. Maybe someone you care about had a baby through egg donation, and you would like to give that gift to another family. Whatever your reasoning may be, we’re glad you’re considering it! Generous people like you make a world of difference.

If you weren’t already aware, for an American egg donor, compensation is part of your agreement. Yes, that’s right—you will get paid to be an egg donor! Any donation-related costs will be reimbursed in full, and you will receive a substantial payment package.

Egg Donation Payment: What To Expect

So, how much do you get for donating eggs?

Fertility treatments like egg donation are not one-size-fits-all. Several factors can significantly impact your egg donor compensation rate. Our egg donor compensation packages typically begin at $6,000, not including the additional money received as reimbursement for related costs. Other donors may be offered a higher pay rate.

Why Do Egg Donor Compensation Packages Vary?

Lots of factors have an impact on donating eggs and pay, like:

  • Intended Parents – Your intended parents will cover the costs associated with your role as an egg donor. They reimburse you for donor-related costs like insurance, related travel and lost wages due to medical appointments. They also will pay your entire compensation package. Because everything is paid for by your intended parents, we need to keep their financial and employment status in mind when we set a compensation rate.

  • Location – Your intended parents could be located anywhere in the world! Depending on the demographics of where they live, they will have different financial needs and circumstances. As mentioned previously, this impacts your egg donor compensation rate.If your intended parents are using an IVF clinic far from you, you will be required to travel to that city or state for medical appointments. All of your travel expenses will be fully covered for you and your companion, when required. Many egg donors use this as a chance to visit a new place!
  • Specific Features – As an egg donor, you will be biologically related to the coming baby. Because of this, some intended parents have very specific wants or needs for their egg donor. For many intended parents, it is important that their child holds the same heritage or ethnicity as their family. Others may prefer that their donor has certain talents (like a natural musical or athletic ability) or a degree from a prestigious academic institution.Donors who possess these traits are typically considered “high demand.” Because of this, intended parents are often prepared to invest higher amounts into working with these specific egg donors. In turn, these donors can be offered a higher-than-usual compensation package.

Important Considerations Regarding Egg Donor Pay

Legal

To be chosen as an egg donor, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements. These regulations are legally mandated, so we take them very seriously. We recommend you spend plenty of time reviewing egg donor requirements before applying.

When the time comes for you to apply and interview to become an egg donor at Extraordinary Conceptions, please be 100% honest—even if doing so disqualifies you from working with us. You also must adhere to all of our guidelines during your cycle (like no heterosexual intercourse while on Lupron.) We promise these requests are for your own benefit and are in place to ensure you get your full egg donor pay. If you give us misleading information in your application and interview process, we will likely discover the truth during your mandatory screening period. We will then be unable to compensate you or reimburse your already-paid medical and/or travel costs.

Ethical

Before you begin your application to become an egg donor, we also urge you to fully consider the emotional undertaking of this role and what your motivation is. As mentioned earlier, most egg donors choose this role because they want to help another family and have perhaps been inspired by someone else’s donor or fertility journey. While egg donation payment is a great benefit, we believe donors should have other motivating factors besides money when considering becoming an egg donor. Otherwise, it may be emotionally challenging in practice.
